There are many things you can do as a Watershed Citizen.

  • Responsible Car Care:
    • wash your car on the lawn to capture runoff, or use a car wash facility that treats its water. Everything that washes into gutters and storm drains ends up in the Chesapeake Bay.
    • recycle used oil. A single drop of oil can pollute a million drops of fresh water.
  • Join a local environmental organization or watershed group.
  • Report problems: If you are out on the water and you notice a spill, fish kill, or other violation, call the appropriate authorities.
  • Dispose of pet waste in trash or toilet. Pet waste contains nutrients as well as harmful bacteria that can enter surface waters via stormwater runoff.
