These Boy Scouts show they care about the watershed and the rivers near home by volunteering for a River Clean Up event. |
- Responsible Car Care:
- wash your car on the lawn to capture runoff, or use a car wash facility that treats its water. Everything that washes into gutters and storm drains ends up in the Chesapeake Bay.
- recycle used oil. A single drop of oil can pollute a million drops of fresh water.
- Join a local environmental organization or watershed group.
- Report problems: If you are out on the water and you notice a spill, fish kill, or other violation, call the appropriate authorities.
- Dispose of pet waste in trash or toilet. Pet waste contains nutrients as well as harmful bacteria that can enter surface waters via stormwater runoff.
